A Solution on the Horizon

I didn't say this before, but we did determine that the fenders were creating the problem and if it wasn't for them sticking out 2 inches from the tires, the boat would fit. My solution was we would just take the fenders off each time we had to take the boat in and out of the garage and Andrew's solution was to just buy new smaller fenders. So Andrew went back the following day to check out the fenders (and I went to work, booo). He determined that they could be adjusted so that the edge of the fender was flush with the edge of the tire. Hurray! This was going to fix our problem. After I got off work, I met Andrew at the house and we pulled out the good 'ole tape measure and voila it was a miracle! The boat width is now 1 and 1/2 inches smaller than the garage door opening. Our next feat is going to be getting the boat into the garage. We haven't attempted that yet, 1) Because we would like our marriage to last a few more days and 2) Because they are still drywalling.

Very Bad Things

Last night Andrew and I got a hair up our ass and decided to clean out the storage unit and take the boat out of storage. Everything went fairly easily considering the storage unit was packed and so was the boat. By the time we got the boat out of the storage unit and everything back in
the storage unit, Andrew realized that we didn't have the key for the lock on the trailer. So I made the trek back to his parent's house got the key and made it back without incident. By this time its 730pm and we are both about beat. We get the boat to the house and we are trying to back it into the garage where we realize "wow, this is going to be a really tight fit". After a little more maneuvering we then realized "wow, this ISN'T going to fit". We pull out the tape measure and the garage door is 7ft 10 1/2inches wide and the boat trailer is 8ft wide. Now this creates a little bit of a problem, doesn't it? By now it's completely dark, and we're tired and hungry and decide that we'll deal with this later. We throw on Andrew's Birthday present (a new boat cover) and call it a night. Stay tuned for the solution (because we haven't figured it out yet..............)

Today, the drywall will be completely hung and they will start mudding. It's amazing how different the house looks with all the drywall up, A LOT smaller! However, the master bedroom is still staying true to its form and looks huge! I saw the master shower for the first time yesterday with the walls, floor and seat in and it looks amazing! I thought it was going to be WAY to big and it's not, it's perfect! I think it was my favorite part of the house yesterday. Andrew did an awesome job putting everything in, he's so talented!

Tonight, we are headed out to dinner at Mongolian BBQ with our friends Joe and Jill and Andrew's parents. After dinner we might head over to Graham and Kristy's to play some games.

Today is a good day!

Today, I had my 16 week OB appointment and everything went very well. I got to hear the baby's heart beat and it was nice and loud at 152. It must have been nap time for the baby because that's the lowest that it been so far. But we'll see. I only gained 2 lbs over the last month, so that's always a good thing. I was also able to set up my 20 week doctor appointment as well as my 20 week ultrasound appointment. Unfortunately and fortunately I will be in Florida for my 20th week so I had to wait until the following week to actually get in. So we are all set up to see our little one on May 22nd at 8am. We are both really excited to see how much the baby has grown and changed. We'll keep you posted with updates!

Our other project is moving along quite nicely as well. The brick front was completed yesterday and drywall hanging started this past Monday. We also picked out and purchased all of our tile for the laundry room, 2nd bath (kids bath) and our master bath and shower. We are planning on ordering the hardwood for the 1st floor foyer, kitchen and master bedroom sitting room tomorrow. We have also made our final decisions on the kitchen cabinets and they will be ordered by the end of this week.

This past Wednesday the, 11th, we had the rough inspection on our house and we passed. During the rough inspection the building dept comes out and checks to make sure that we have done all of our plumbing, electrical and framing work properly. This also gave us the go ahead to put in the insulation. So we had the insulation guys come out on Thursday and it only took them a half a day to put all of it in! So that afternoon we had our insulation inspection and passed. Now we can start drywalling. All the drywall and materials were delivered Thursday and they will start hanging drywall on Monday. Our brick guy has also started to lay the brick for the front of the house. Andrew was a little concerned with the color when the bricks originally showed up, but now that they are on the house they look amazing!

We both went out to the house last night and did a little walk thru. We are very pleased with the insulation installation and the brick guy. It was very weird to walk into the house with the insulation in the walls. I didn't think it would make that much of a difference, but it does. The house is so much quieter, it doesn't echo, and it feels much more a like a house. The foyer feels smaller too because now you can't see into the garage from the foyer.

So the last post was very full of excitement and new happenings, this one, not so much.

So far we got our garage floor poured and it looks fabulous. We now have an official front porch including but not limited to a step and walkway from said porch to the driveway...or what will be the driveway. The siding for the house has arrived (typical vinyl siding) and it looks even better than I could have imagined. Hopefully the brick will be arriving sometime later this week or the beginning of next week. But we'll see. Andrew came to the realization that he is not a plumber and finally had to break down and call one to come and finish the plumbing. So needless to say we are still about 5-7 days out from drywalling (for which we have hired professionals who are certified in drywallogy) and as of today about 2-3 days out from insulating. However, I have also come to a realization that nothing seems to get done in the time frame that is laid out so, please don't hold me accountable to anything written in this blog about the house construction process or completion. Moving on, we looked at light fixtures over the weekend and also purchased them. We ended up getting everything from Home "Cheapo" and saved ourselves a considerable amount of money, which is always good. We also bought our kitchen faucet and picked out the kitchen sink, but haven't purchased it yet. We decided on the hardwood flooring for the master bedroom sitting room, kitchen and foyer. It's all the same color and we are getting it from Lumber Liquidators (and they really did have some good deals). Finally, we look at a couch that we really like from Crate and Barrel and I'm working on trying to get a discount from a friend who knows someone who works there.

On Friday I met up with Kristy and Payton at Yorktown Mall for a play date. Payton's cousins were there too and he had a ball playing on the jungle gym thing and he even rode the train they have there. He didn't even cry, it was so cool to watch him! Then we went to lunch at Panera and he ate an entire pickle spear and some grilled cheese. He's getting SO big! After lunch I ran some errands and then met up with Andrew. I made dinner, a delicious taco salad, we watched The Office and I fell asleep a little before 7pm. Super exciting night....I know you're jealous!

On Saturday we went to a Pulte Easter egg hunt and breakfast. It was at a place called Game Works, it's very similar to Dave and Busters. They had a buffet breakfast and then an egg hunt for the kids and even our own Easter Bunny to take pictures with. Pulte gave us game cards to play the games and we didn't even use all our points before we left. It was a very nice outing and we both hope they will do it again next year. After that we went shopping and then the Church that we go to sometimes had an Easter Service on Saturday so we went to that. It was very interesting and entertaining like they usually are. After Church we went to Graham and Kristy's for pizza and played domino's. Naturally, I lost VERY badly.

Sunday we went to Meson Sabika for Easter Brunch, which wasn't quite the same because usually we go with my family and this year it was just the two of us. Everything was delicious and they had to roll us out the front door after we were finished. We ran a couple of errands, went out to the house to drop off the light fixtures we bought and then it was off to work for me
